Nathan Ball's Merchant Mariner Credential, issued by the United States Merchant Marine, is a professional document that supports his work as a charter operator on the Gulf Coast. The credential is listed under his name and bears the official seal of the U.S. Merchant Marine, established in 1775.
For customers aboard the Madelyn Kaye, this credential represents Nathan's professional standing as someone operating vessels in U.S. waters. It serves as part of the documentation that identifies him as the captain running your trip, whether you're heading out to fish inshore, cruise to the barrier islands, or spend an evening watching the sunset over the Gulf.
Nathan has spent over six years working specifically with the Mississippi Gulf Coast, learning every shallow bay, channel, and productive flat where redfish and trout gather. Before turning his passion for fishing into Hook N Line Fishing Charters, he worked as a high school teacher, bringing that same patience and clear instruction to every charter.
The Madelyn Kaye, a 2009 20-foot Mako 204, is equipped with a Minn Kota Terrova trolling motor with I-Pilot for precise positioning and a Lowrance Elite FS-9 to spot fish and structure below. Nathan provides all rods, reels, bait, and tackle, so your group just needs to show up and be ready to spend the day on the water.
Hook N Line Fishing Charters offers a range of trips customized to what your group wants to do. Half-day inshore fishing trips run 4 hours and target redfish, trout, and other local favorites. Extended half-day trips give you 6 hours to explore more productive waters and reach the best bite. Full-day charters combine inshore fishing with island exploration and can run 6 to 8 hours depending on conditions and your interests.
If fishing isn't your focus, you have other options. Sunset cruises last 2 to 3 hours and depart at 5:00 PM, offering views of the Gulf at its most scenic. Booze cruises run 2 to 3 hours with multiple departure times throughout the day and are fully BYOB. For nature enthusiasts, bird-watching cruises last 3 to 4 hours with morning and afternoon departures, allowing you to spot local species and photograph the area's natural beauty. All trips depart from Biloxi Small Craft Harbor.
Nathan's experience working alongside local dolphin research programs means wildlife-focused trips come with real insight about what you're seeing. Mixed groups where some people want to fish and others want to explore dolphins or relax work well on Nathan's charters because he builds each day around what your group actually wants.
For fishing trips, bring sunscreen, water, a hat, and comfortable clothes you don't mind getting wet or dirty. The boat has comfortable seating and bean-bag fighting chairs for kids to use while fighting fish. Nathan provides all tackle and bait, so you can focus on the experience.
Most of the fishing happens in state waters, so check with Mississippi if your group needs a personal fishing license for your area — regulations vary by residency and state. Ask Nathan about current requirements for your specific group when you book.
For cruises, bring whatever drinks and snacks you'd like for booze cruises or birdwatching, and a camera if you plan to photograph wildlife or the sunset. The Madelyn Kaye's large ice chest keeps drinks cold throughout the day, and there's plenty of shade and seating for everyone to stay comfortable during a 2- to 3-hour cruise.
Trips operate along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and nearby barrier islands with departure times that work for morning anglers and afternoon relaxation. Weather and water conditions shape each day, and Nathan will discuss tide, wind, and what species are active when you confirm your reservation.
